Are there any other costs?
No. Currently, MIA do not charge any fees for the substantial work
required in the creation of your web site. We feel confident that you will find our
package to be professional, useful and reliable and will continue to enjoy the service for
many years to come. Therefore, the Medical Consultant Web Package
is offered for just £440 plus VAT per annum.
I already have an email address - do I need to change it?
No. All emails sent to your new email address can be forwarded to your existing email
address.
What is included in a MIA supplied web site?
A fully designed templated ten page web site, fully hosted with your unique domain name,
and free Internet access. A total of 5000 words can be used within the web site,and it can

What if I don't want ten pages on my MIA supplied web site?
The package includes a ten page web site, however, if you want to have less pages on your
web site, and add the other pages at a later time, then just let us know. We will produce
your web site, and then call us when you are ready to add the other pages (for no
additional fee, as ten pages are included in the package).
What if I want more than ten pages, or a bespoke web site design?
MIA can create whatever web site you require. A small fee will be
charged to add extra pages to a standard web site. If you are interested in a fully spoke
web site, then please contact us for a exact quotation on your requirements.
How does MIA obtain the information to include in my web site?
On joining MIA, you will receive a web site content form to fill
in all the relevant details regarding your specialty. Whilst completing this form (either
electronically or on paper), we will create a holding web site. This web site is replaced
once MIA receive your content form.
How long will it take to have my web site up on the Internet?
The MIA endeavour to have your web site up on the Internet within 20 working days from the
date the web site content form is received. In practice, member's web sites are live well
within this time scale, but it should be borne in mind that this is not always possible
due to external factors.
Can my MIA supplied web site be updated?
Yes it can be. As part of the MIA Medical Consultant Web Package,
quarterly updates are offered, so a member's web site can be kept up-to-date with the
latest text and images.
Can my MIA supplied web site be upgraded?
Yes it can be. The MIA offers several upgrade options, though all
members have the necessary details given to them so that they can carry out the upgrade
work themselves, or commission a web design agency of their own choosing.
Can I update my web site myself?
Yes you can. All members can request details so that they can carry out the upgrade work
themselves, or commission a web design agency of their own choosing.
How will potential customers find my web site?
As a member of the MIA, your web site will be regularly registered
with the most popular search engines, and is also be registered with many UK online
directories, and medical directories.
Why is my web site submitted to serach engines on a monthly basis?
MIA web sites are submitted to the most popular search engines on
a monthly basis. Search engines change the way they operate regularly, so the monthly
submissions reduce the chance of a member's web site dropping off a search engine's
database.
Where does my web site reside?
MIA members' web sites reside on fast Windows 2000 computers
(servers) located within a secure UK-based network operating centre.
Do I have to use MIA dial-up?
You do not have to use the MIA dial-up in order to browse through
web sites or to receive emails, but if you are using and ISP other than MIA Dial, there may be a need to use the ISP's SMTP server to send
emails. The ISP can give you more details.
Why do I need to use the MIA dial-up for sending emails?
This is because there is a security measure put in place to reduce the risk of 'spamming'.
This action is where an individual can send thousands of unsolicited emails, whose
contents are usually unwanted.
What's the difference between a PC and a Mac?
The essential difference is to do with the operating system installed on the computer. A
typical PC might have Windows 2000 installed, whereas a Mac might have OS/2 installed.
Do I need to have another phone line to have a web site?
Although it is not absolutely necessary to have an additional phone line installed for
Internet use, it is worth considering. This is because when the Internet is being
accessed, the line will be engaged to anyone trying to ring through.
What is an URL (pronounced 'earl')?
A Uniform Resource Locator is the name given to a web address, such as
www.consultantname.co.uk.
What is a domain name?
A domain name forms a unique web address, which can be used for defining the address of a
web site and can be used in the construct of email addresses.
Who owns a MIA supplied domain name?
Though the MIA pays for the registration of a new member's .co.uk
or .org.uk domain name, it is the legal property of the member for the registration
period. The registration period with Nominet (the UK Naming Authority) is normally two
years, after which is has to be renewed. MIA will renew the registration of members'
domain names every two years at no extra cost, and keep doing so for as long as they are MIA members.
